How Long Does it Take to Repair a Windshield
You’re driving down the road, and a large rock hits your windshield. You instantly noticed a small chip in the center of the glass. While this chip may appear harmless, it will only continue to get worse in the long run. Be sure to have it professionally repaired by a windshield repair technician.
Cracked windshields should be repaired as quickly as possible. Failure to do so may result in more damage. Too many car owners put off repairing their windshields because they are worried it will take too much time. This is simply not the case. Your windshield can be repaired in no time at all.
LENGTH OF CHIP REPAIRS
Simple chip repairs are quick and easy for any windshield company to tackle. You don’t even need to be with your car during the repairs! On average, it will only take between 30 and 60 minutes to repair a chip in your windshield. If additional chips are noted, most repairmen estimate an additional 15 minutes per chip.
WAIT TIME AFTER REPAIR
Once a chip has been fully repaired, it is requested that you wait at least one hour before driving your car again. This allows adequate time for the repair to cure. Driving may put unnecessary force on the repair, resulting in repair failure. After one hour, you may resume your normal driving habits.
HOW TO PREP FOR A WINDSHIELD REPAIR
You don’t need to do much to prepare for your windshield repair. The only requisite is that your windshield is dry for at least 24 hours before work is begun. This is because the chip may spread more during humid conditions. If it is raining on the day of your appointment, the repair company will reschedule your time so they can come back when it’s dry outside.
WHAT ABOUT COMPLETE WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT?
There are instances when a crack is so bad that the entire windshield panel needs to be replaced instead of just being repaired. The windshield company will let you know if replacement is needed prior to your appointment. While this seems like a more time-consuming job, it really takes no longer than repairing a chip.
Car owners should allow a minimum of one hour to fully replace a windshield. This time includes removal of the old glass panel and the placement of the new one. As with chips, repairmen suggest allowing an additional hour before driving to make sure the glass is safely in place.
Stop putting off getting your windshield repaired! Remember that even the smallest chips may expand over time, resulting in more damage. Getting your windshield repaired will not take very long at all. If you have a few hours to spare without having to drive, you can repair several chips at once.
Protech Auto Glass will even travel to you to make the repairs. You can schedule the repairs to occur at your home, work, or another convenient place. Be sure to have all the chips fixed during a single appointment to save you time in the long run.
